Dining at the Hummingbird Inn
in Goshen Virginia
"Enjoying lively conversation with my fellow travelers over a
home-cooked meal makes the dust of the road melt away."
A full, hot breakfast is served at 9:00, with the option of having a continental breakfast at any time you choose. Breakfast always includes fresh fruits in season, an entree such as honey-cinnamon french toast, fresh berry waffles, or breakfast casseroles, and homemade breads and coffee cakes. Our eggs come from free-range chickens living at Briar Patch Farm, just the other side of Lexington. Our maple syrup is made by the Nelson family over in Kerrs Creek. When available, we serve local produce, and this summer we'll have fresh, organic vegetables from Cherry Ridge Farm in Rockbridge Baths. We will happily accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and special diets, if informed at the time of reservation. Early-rising coffee drinkers will find plenty of freshly brewed Costa Rican coffee and there is always a variety of teas from which to choose.
For lunch and evening meals, there are a variety of area restaurants to try in Lexington, Warm Springs, and Staunton. Click here for Area Restaurants.
Casual evening dining in a warmly elegant setting is offered as a convenience to our guests who don't wish to travel into the bigger towns after dark. It's just too tempting to stay here and relax!
On Friday nights we offer a simple "picnic" supper, served in the dining room during colder months, or packed in a basket to take outside on the veranda or out on the deck when it's warm. Supper is a huge baked potato topped with barbequed pulled pork and all the fixin's, a simple salad, bread, ice cream and brownies or cookies, and a complimentary bottle of wine with choice of other beverages. We can serve this as early as 6 or as late as 8 p.m., making it a great way to start your weekend without stopping for fast food on your way to the inn. ($50. per couple)
Saturday we serve a candlelight dinner in our dining room, complete with fresh salad, just-baked bread, seasonal vegetables, and a homemade dessert. The entree might be roast pork loin, grilled chicken breast, or a vegetarian pasta dish... chef's choice. Let us know your likes and dislikes when making your reservation and we'll try to accommodate. A bottle of our Rockbridge Vineyards house wine (or sparkling cider or beer), coffee and tea are included. Dinner is served at 7 p.m. unless another time is requested. ($75. per couple)
Since recently the two restaurants in Goshen have closed, we've started offering simple suppers every weeknight (Sunday - Thursday) for $30. per couple. These are made up of what we have on hand, usually a homemade soup and bread, or a loaf of bread with cheese, salami, and fruit. These suppers come with dessert and soft drinks. Add a bottle of wine to this meal and the price is $40. per couple. We can serve this anytime between 5 and 8 p.m. and appreciate as much advance notice as you can give us.
Lunch "to go" consists of sandwiches, chips, fruit, cookies, and soft drinks. ($30. per couple)
"Outdoor Lovers' Picnic" is packed in a backpack with a bottle of wine, bread, cheese, fruit, and dessert. ($40. per couple)
All lunch and weekend dinner meals must be reserved at least two days in advance of your visit so that we'll have time to do our shopping. Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions or anything you just won't eat when you make your reservation.
