Generously proportioned, Franklin features a queen-size rice-carved four poster bed, a bi-level mahogany Empire chest with shaving mirror, and comfortable seating for two. A gas-log stove lends a cheery glow and warmth on cool nights. A 150 year-old boxwood in our shade garden and the old livery stable beyond are visible from the back window. Around the corner, a door affords access to the wrap-around verandah. A comfortable modern bathroom with a large whirpool tub/shower combination is entered via a unique pass-through closet arrangement. A basketful of toilet articles, a hair dryer, and plush robes are among the bathroom's appointments.
The Franklin room is named for FDR, who could not accompany his wife Eleanor when she visited, but sent a thank you note to the Teters for a desk basket they sent him. This room is a favorite with folks looking for a real VA Blue Ridge Mountain vacation, whether for hiking, fly fishing for trout, or just roaming about the beautiful Virginia countryside. And in good weather, with the windows open, guests can hear Mill Creek bubbling along by the deck next to the barn.
