Things to Do in the Area Our Shenandoah Valley bed and breakfast offers the perfect base for hiking, biking, bird-watching, fishing, golfing, and antique shopping. Country drives and historic sites abound. You can be as active as you want to be, spending your days relaxing at the inn or exploring the mountains, valleys, and towns of Rockbridge County and beyond. You might want to take a picnic down to Goshen Pass, a spectacular rocky gorge created by the Maury River. The Pass was used by pioneers seeking passage from the Shenandoah Valley to the Alleghany Mountains, and you can trace their path to Goshen along Route 39. Bring a fishing pole and catch some trout, or wear your bathing suit for a dip in Indian Pool. A long weekend will just give you a taste of all the area has to offer – but you’re welcome to come back again to see some of the things you missed! We offer Shenandoah Valley lodging at its best for a relaxing getaway close to mountains, farm land, historic towns, and the great outdoors.

Hiking in our area ranges from casual one- or two-hour strolls beside tumbling streams to day-long treks leading you to cliff edges and mountain tops with spectacular vistas of rivers, lakes, and forest-covered hills. Our Shenandoah Valley VA Bed and Breakfast is on the edge of the Alleghany Mountains, so we have the best of both worlds! Late Fall, Winter, and early Spring are great for hiking in this area! Late Fall, Winter, and early Spring are great for hiking in this area! Goshen Pass (and the Goshen Wildlife Management Area), just four miles from the inn, with its swinging bridge over the Maury River is one starting point, as is Laurel Run, also in Goshen Pass. A little farther afield (30 minutes or so) are the 42 miles of trails in Douthat State Park. Other trailheads, 15 to 30 minutes by car, are jumping-off places for climbs beside waterfalls or 30-minute bird- watching ambles in a wetlands sanctuary.
Your host Dick, an experienced hiker, has walked most of the trails within range of the inn (many of them with Pam) and can help you plan a brief day trip or a major, all-day trek - or anything in between. We have topographic and trail maps and can loan you day packs, water bottles, and binoculars. We can even prepare a snack or a lunch for the trip if you want. And at trail's end you come back to an ice-cold drink (or steaming coffee or tea in Winter), a hot shower, and a great night's sleep.
